Summary of Comments Received on Staff Draft Proposed Rule on Radiological Criteria for Decommissioning

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is conducting an enhanced participatory rulemaking to establish radiological criteria for the decommissioning of NRC-licensed facilities. The NRC obtained comments on the scope, issues , and approaches through a series of workshops (57 FR 58727), Generic Environmental impact Statement (GEIS) scoping-meetings (58 FR 33570), and written submissions. A Summary of workshop and scoping-meetings comments was published as NUREG/CR-6156. On February 2, 1994, the Commission published in the Federal Register (59 FE 4868) a notice that the NRC staff had prepared a "staff draft" proposed rule on radiological criteria for decommissioning. Copies of the staff draft were distributed to the Agreement States, participants in the earlier meetings, and other interested parties for comment. (Jml)
