Summary of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's LOFT Program Research Findings
This document is a summary of the main research results of the Loss-of-Fluid Test (LOFT) Program relative to code assessment, code development, licensing, rulemaking, safety technology, and reactor operations. The LOFT facility is a 50 MW(t) pressurized water reactor (PWR) system with instruments that measure and provide data on the system thermal-hydraulic and nuclear conditions. The transient response of the LOFT system to accident events is similar to large [z1000 MW(e) commercial PWRs. The main objectives of the LOFT experimental Program were to qualify the engineered safety systems used in commercial PWRs and to verify the computer codes used in safety analyses. (Jml)
