Safeguards Reporting Strategy for Non-Nuclear Fuel Cycle Depleted Uranium to IAEA

Depleted uranium (DU) is a nuclear material that has many applications in industry and healthcare. Currently DU for non-nuclear fuel cycle (Non-NFC) use in Indonesia has not been included in the safeguards reporting of nuclear material. This raises problems related to the import of DU Non-NFC, where the exporting country requires the importing country to include depleted uranium in the nuclear material accounting system. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a DU Non-NFC reporting strategy that can be used by BAPETEN. In this paper, a DU Non-NFC reporting strategy is developed taking into account the location of the DU, the capability of facility personnel to manage the nuclear material inventory and existing regulations. This reporting strategy is expected to be able to be applied and adapted to the limited number of safeguards personnel at BAPETEN. Thus, DU Non-NFC can be utilized for the welfare of the Indonesian people
